On September 4, 2002, Virginia-Pacific Corporation filed a chapter 11 petition in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, assigned case No. 02-67569. Thereafter, the case was converted to chapter 7 and a trustee was charged with winding down the estate for the benefit of creditors. Oak Point Partners, Inc. acquired the remnant assets of the Virginia-Pacific Corporation Bankruptcy Estate in January 2012.
Virginia-Pacific was a leader in the private forestry industry in Eastern North Carolina and Virginia. Its primary business was the manufacture of quality hardwood chips, and the management and marketing of timber.
The former headquarters of Virginia-Pacific was in Emporia, Virginia.
